Like all good Pinots, this one dazzles in the glass and the nose doesn’t disappoint either. An inviting combination of balanced, warm spice notes and red fruits ensconced by well integrated smokey oak and earthy undertones.
On the palate it’s a medium bodied savoury symphony finishing with exceptional length, minerality and complexity. The tannins are ripe, firm and approachable, adding to the wine’s elegant structure.
Crafted by one of the pioneers from the New Zealand’s ‘it’ region for Pinot Noir, Central Otago. ‘Central’ as it is affectionately known, is as endeared for its topographical diversity as it is for its highly acclaimed and coveted wines.
The Chard Farm ‘Mata Au’ is a blend of Pinot from four of Chard Farms’ vineyards. The 2009 vintage has been lauded by many of the region’s winemakers as producing some of the best wines to date. ‘An elegant Pinot Noir with appealing purity and subtle power. Red and black cherry with a suggestion of spice supported by nutty oak. Surprising length’ – Rated 93/100 by New Zealand’s Bob Campbell MW 2008
