Starting from a brilliant cherry red in the glass, the Speri Ripasso entices with red fruits laced with jubes, aniseed and blackcurrant. Warm, spicy aromatics and earthy tobacco complete its sophisticated nose.
Some serious textural intensity and flavour on the palate makes it luscious, supple and well structured. Medium bodied and just loaded with fruit, it’s the perfect wine to accompany a slow cooked ragu or lamb roast in the autumn and winter months.
Hailing from the Veneto region in Italy’s north-east, Ripasso refers to a technique where a macerated blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara is re-fermented over Amarone marc for around eight days. The wine is then aged in large format older oak for around 12 months.
Awarded 88 points by WineEnthusiast, the Speri Ripasso is described as a ‘deeply layered tasty and rich wine…. with a smooth and penetrating mouth feel able to stand up to hearty meat dishes.’
