2008 Poderi Colla Nebbiolo Cascine Drago – Alba $44

 Tasted Wednesday 16 March 2011

This 2008 is initially very pretty on the nose with lifted florals, cherries, aniseed that intermingles with a subtle earthy funkiness. The medium body is corralled by balanced chewy tannins, adding to its elegant structure and lingering finish. As the wine opens up and develops, its texture becomes seamless leaving a satin like feel in the mouth.

The Poderi Colla is a standout Nebbiolo from the Alba in Italy’s renowned Piedmont wine region. The Colla family has enjoyed a rich history of wine making in Piedmont with vineyards located in the iconic Langhe, Barbaresco and Barolo communes. Like Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo loves game meats and earthy aromatic dishes as accompaniment. (Liz)

‘The palate is smoothly carved with intense yet fine tannin density. It has a juicy lip smacking finish’ 95 points- Nick Stock, Stephen Pannell and Peter Bourne -Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine.
